UNITED BY A COMMON CODE AND A SHARED VISION TO PROVIDE SPIRITUAL CARE, WISE COUNSEL, AND MEANINGFUL SERVICE FOR SOCCER
Soccer Chaplains United is a Christian organization dedicated to providing spiritual care, wise counsel, and meaningful service to those in the world of soccer.
Our primary emphasis is on chaplaincy development that considers and cares for the whole person — whether an athlete, coach, staff member, official, alumni, fan, or family member. We train our chaplains to pastorally and spiritually care for the greater soccer community.
Soccer Chaplains United also facilitates meaningful service opportunities between the faith and soccer community. Through our Community Project initiatives we resource different groups with new and used soccer gear to affect change locally and globally.
Soccer Chaplains United is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization.

Often times we can look at professional athletes and think that their life is glamorous and desirable, but we may not know how hard it is to get there and the many sacrifices made to play the Beautiful Game. Last week, Clint Irwin began with his origin story and gave us a look at the […]
There are countless stories of soccer players who couch surf and go wherever the game may take them in an attempt to live out their dream to play professional soccer. Some make, most don’t. There are fewer opportunities to make it to the top leagues these days without hard-work and a gritty determination. And there […]
The past few weeks have been troubling in the US, to say the least — stabbings, shootings, marches and more in a country that has been typically a peace-filled one. What can we do in such times? How do we respond in such moments? Can we experience true peace? How do we pray for true […]

Today on the From the Touchline podcast, I share from my experience this past weekend as I was invited out to be present in an athlete retirement ceremony and celebration. Clint Irwin, former Colorado Rapids goalkeeper, who also played for Toronto FC and Minnesota United FC, had a moment for friends and family to gather. […]

Hope Gitombo Community Project Update
Our friend, Wanji, sent us a lovely update from Hope Gitombo in Kenya after distributing some of the soccer jerseys and equipment to the children. Please enjoy the short video below!
McDaniel Has Heart for Heartwood, Resigns Defiance Chaplaincy
Jubal McDaniel has tendered his resignation from his volunteer chaplain role with the Tacoma Defiance and from Soccer Chaplains United. Jubal began serving the Defiance in 2020. The last 6 seasons have watched him grow the ministry toward the team and community in some really neat and exciting ways. Jubal not only served as volunteer […]
Congress Schedule For Waco Coming Out
Earlier this year, I learned that my proposed talk on translating the scriptures for sport had been accepted for the 4th Global Congress on Sport and Christianity (GCSC) happening this summer in Waco, Texas at Baylor University’s Truett Seminary. And I recently received an email about where my talk will fit into the conference as […]
Hope Going to Gitombo: Kenyan Village and School Needing Gear
Wanjiru Mukunga and I went to Denver Seminary together many, many years ago. Formerly a chaplain with Christian Living Communities, we shared some professional development moments and colleagues throughout the years. In 2017, Wanji (known as Mary to many of her American friends) left the comforts of the US and her job here to return […]
Subbing Out: Bailey Concludes West Virginia Chaplaincy Effort
In late 2022, Josh Bailey reached out to Soccer Chaplains United about what chaplaincy might look like in Charleston, West Virginia. While there was nothing concrete at the time, Josh had noticed the influence of soccer and the number of people that were on the sidelines any given weekend. As a local church pastor, Josh […]
